Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday said there will be an "orderly transfer" between administrations Jan. 20, though he did not mention President-elect Joe Biden or President Donald Trump, who is refusing to concede, by name.
McConnell, R-Ky., has not yet publicly recognized Biden's victory, but his comments Tuesday following a Senate Republican luncheon signaled he is prepared for a Biden presidency.
Asked about the General Services Administration's refusal to ascertain Biden's victory, which triggers important components of the transition, McConnell did not push for the Trump administration to begin that process but said "we're going to have an orderly transfer from this administration to the next one." "What we all say about it is frankly irrelevant," he said, adding, "All of it will happen right on time, and we will swear in the next administration on January 20th."
Earlier, McConnell described the next steps in the electoral process, pointing to the upcoming certification of results in key swing states. "Once those certifications occur, if they occur based upon litigation being tried in various places, those will be final," he said. "The Electoral College will meet in December. And the inauguration will be on January 20th." 選挙人は12月の会議で投票し1月20日に就任式典となる」 0606日出づる処の名無し2020/11/18(水) 11:00:59.86ID:NAjLg9qO McConnell added that the president and his legal team are within their rights to present "whatever evidence" they may have to contest the results. Trump campaign loses another election challenge in Pennsylvania State supreme court decision over count observers comes as federal judge expresses scepticism in related case ft.com 0612日出づる処の名無し2020/11/18(水) 11:18:37.80ID:NAjLg9qOhttps://www.wsj.com/articles/rage-against-the-voting-machine-11605656036?mod=djemalertNEWS Rage Against the Voting Machine Trump blames the result on Dominion’s systems. Former acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Wednesday slammed Rudy Giuliani’s leadership of the Trump campaign’s election-related legal challenges, saying that the effort to reverse the presidential race’s outcome “is not a television program” and should be handled by more experienced attorneys.
“I’m still a little concerned about the use of Rudy Giuliani. It strikes me that this is the most important lawsuit in the history of the country, and they’re not using the most well-noted election lawyers,” Mulvaney, who served as President Donald Trump’s top aide from January 2019-March 2020, told Fox Business.
“There are folks who do this all of the time. This is a specialty. This is not a television program. Over the weekend, Giuliani and his own team of lawyers, which also includes Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis, attempted what was described to ABC News as an internal campaign "coup"? an attempt to wrestle power away from the current longstanding Trump campaign leadership by claiming the president had given them full control moving forward, multiple sources said.
The attempted power grab hit a boiling point on Saturday when Miller, who’s been the campaign's chief strategist for months, and Ellis got into what sources said was a "screaming match" in front of other staffers. They both threatened to call the president to settle who he wanted to be in charge, sources said. At one point, Miller berated Ellis and called her “crazy,” multiple sources said.
Legal experts were heavily skeptical of the Trump campaign’s arguments in the Pennsylvania case after it was first filed, and the lawsuit was amended after a federal appeals court struck down some of the campaign’s central legal arguments in a separate case. The case will now largely focus on allegations concerning the fact that some Pennsylvania counties allowed voters to fix issues with their mail-in ballots while others decided not to, though Giuliani has been vocal about other baseless allegations regarding Pennsylvania’s election process, suggesting the attorney could bring up other issues during the hearing.
KEY BACKGROUND The Pennsylvania lawsuit is part of a broader effort by Trump and the GOP to challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s win in battleground states. Despite yielding one minor win in a Pennsylvania mail-in voting case, the legal challenges have so far largely failed, however, and election law experts do not believe at this point that Trump has a chance of success. “There is no path,” election law expert Rick Hasen wrote on his blog Monday. “Rudy Giuliani can say what he wants and the President can keep declaring that he’s won, but there’s no plausible legal way this election gets overturned.”

WASHINGTON ? Forget Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. Or Trump’s impeachment for asking Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden. Arguably the biggest political scandal we’ve ever seen in this country is playing right before our eyes: President Trump and his allies are trying to reverse the election results of a contest he lost. (中略) In Pennsylvania ? which Biden won by more than 82,000 votes ? Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani was in court asking a judge to overturn the state’s results. (“At bottom, you’re asking this court to invalidate some 6.8 million votes thereby disenfranchising every single voter in the commonwealth,” the judge said.)
And to top it off, the president on Tuesday fired the federal government’s head of cybersecurity, who had debunked many of the conspiracy theories that Trump’s team had been promoting.
Bottom line: Trump’s efforts to overturn the election have stumbled and gained no significant traction yet. WASHINGTON (AP) ? When Kamala Harris returned to the Senate this week for the first time as vice president-elect, her Republican colleagues offered their congratulations and Sen. Lindsey Graham greeted her with a fist bump. It was a sign that many Republicans have privately acknowledged what they refuse to say openly: Democrat Joe Biden and Harris won the election and will take office in January.
The GOP’s public silence on the reality of Biden’s victory amounts to tacit approval of Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud. That has significant repercussions, delaying the transition during a deadly pandemic, sowing public doubt and endangering Biden’s ability to lead the portion of the country that may question his legitimacy.
“The real-world consequences are perilous,” said Eddie Glaude, chair of the Department of African American studies at Princeton University. “The long-term implications are calcifying the doubt about the election and what that means for the body politic. It could lead to half the country not just being deeply suspicious of the democratic process but also actively hostile toward it.
