Paul Krugman@paulkrugman・3時間 This was not the October surprise Trump was looking for (I know, it's still September, but almost). Of course, the surprise isn't that he's a phony and a cheat ? we knew that ? but that The Times managed to get the goods 1/
Lots of speculation about whether it will make a difference; no doubt lots of Trump supporters will just dismiss it. In fact, there's a "when prophecy fails" aspect: to admit the truth about Trump is to admit that you were utterly conned, and many will refuse to accept that 2/
But for what it's worth (which isn't much), I find myself thinking of the "world affairs" discussions at my late father's retirement community; I can just see some of the guys saying "$750? He's a total fraud!" and switching their votes 3/
And it wouldn't take a lot of senior citizens in Florida breaking for Biden to make Nov. 3 a pretty short night after all. 4/
Meanwhile, it's going to be fun watching GOP senators run from the press over the next few days 5/ 0467日出づる処の名無し2020/09/28(月) 12:25:54.73ID:MDX49M4E David Frumさんがリツイート Tahar@laseptiemewilay・1時間 Treasury Dept should buy Trump’s debt. The head of the nation’s infectious diseases institute, Dr. Anthony Fauci, directly called out both Fox News and Trump’s newly-appointed Covid adviser, Dr. Scott Atlas, for spreading misleading information about the Covid pandemic.
During an interview on CNN on Monday with Brian Stelter, Fauci pulled few punches in naming the network and the Trump confidante as doing a disservice to the public. The brief clip of the interview was shown at the beginning of the 5:00 p.m. edition of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, guest hosted by Jim Acosta.

The comments from Fauci came just hours after he publicly questioned the decision by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to effectively end all indoor lockdowns in that state. With Covid cases up nearly 20 percent nationwide since the week after Labor Day, Fauci warned that “we’re not in a very good place” and singled out Florida’s full re-opening of bars as “very concerning.”

Nate Silver@NateSilver538・41分 I guess the silver lining for Trump is that Pennsylvania has been polled quite a bit lately and there are certainly other polls to suggest that Biden's advantage isn't as large as 9 points. But still...
...there were questions before as to why Pennsylvania was polling as a fairly tight race even though Biden was polling well in demographically similar states such as MI/MN/WI and also even leading in some OH polls recently. Now PA looks more in line with the rest of those states.
Our Pennsylvania polling average now shows Biden +5.5, which really reduces the split with Wisconsin (B +6.8) and Michigan (B +6.9) as well as with national polls (B + 7.0).

For the Biden campaign, neither state is a "tipping point;" they don't "need" to win either to get to 270 Electoral Votes. Our latest ratings show Biden with an advantage in enough states (and CD's) to get him to 290, without Ohio or Iowa. But, Biden's huge cash hauls over the summer ? the former Vice President outraised Trump in August by more than $150M and had more $60M more in cash on hand than Trump ? gives Biden the flexibility to spend some money in 'reach' states. アイオワとオハイオを獲得できなくとも、バイデンは容易に290人を選挙人を得られる
The Trump campaign can't win without either state. But, given Biden's superior financial advantage, they also have to be more judicious with where they spend their money. That means making sure that must-win states like North Carolina and Florida are well-funded.
