シアトルにあるアマゾン・ドット・コムの本社で、「モーティシア」と名づけられた高さ１８２センチの植物「ショクダイオオコンニャク」が花を咲かせた。「死体花」とも呼ばれるこの植物が開花するのは７年に１度だけで、開花期間は２日間。開花することで、この植物は昆虫を引きつける。

この花がその異名を与えられた理由は、異名に相応しいその臭い。だが、稀有な現象を見るためにオフィスにやって来た数千人の訪問客が、この臭いによって追い払われるということはなかった。
この「死体花」は、アマゾン本社の庭園にある４００種類を超える植物のうちの１つ。
