I know well many of the mega-rich and, by and large, they are very decent people. They love America
and appreciate the opportunity this country has given them. Many have joined the Giving Pledge, promising
to give most of their wealth to philanthropy. Most wouldn’t mind being told to pay more in taxes as well,
particularly when so many of their fellow citizens are truly suffering.

ギビング・プレッジ（The Giving Pledge、寄付誓約宣言）は、2010年6月にマイクロソフト社会長の
ビル・ゲイツ夫妻と投資家のウォーレン・バフェットが始めた寄付啓蒙活動[1]。資産家が生前もしくは死後に
自身の資産の半分以上を慈善活動に寄付するという「プレッジ（誓約）」を宣言してみせることで、富裕層の
寄付行為を促そうとするもの[1]。参加者は「誓約の書簡」を書いてウェブで公開するが、誓約は法的なもので
はなく、寄付の金額や実際に寄付したかどうかも確認されない[1]。2015年9月現在で150名の誓約者が登録[2]。
