Optane DIMMs won't replace DRAM completely. DRAM is needed to act as a buffer for writes and for endurance.

I have one theory: Early leaks had 8 DIMM slots, which were strange because Purley only has 6 channels. I believe the 2 slots are for DRAM.

2x128GB DRAM + 6x 512GB Optane DIMM?

Technology always happens in steps, it NEVER comes all at once. This when it happens is a ground-breaking step to a much different computing future.
