After installing version 22H2 updates of Windows 10 or Windows 11 in a VM on VMware Workstation while using Host VBS Mode, the Windows guest may BSOD with an "Unsupported Processor" error (0x5d).

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Workstation 17.0 and later versions.

Workaround

A workaround is to disable features in the Windows host operating system that require the use of Hyper-V and the Windows Hypervisor Platform (WHP API). These features include: Virtualization Based Security (VBS), Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG), Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, and Windows Sandbox.
