恐竜も「迷彩」で身守る？ 羽毛に濃淡模様、中国の化石から再現

【10月30日 AFP】中国で化石が見つかった約1億3000万年前の羽毛恐竜に、敵に見つかりにくくするための濃淡模様があったとの研究成果を、英国の研究者らが米科学誌カレント・バイオロジー（Current Biology）に発表した。恐竜に関する通説を覆す発見だという。
　
同誌に26日に掲載された論文によると、この恐竜はシノサウロプテリクス（Sinosauropteryx）という小型の羽毛恐竜で、十数年前に化石が発見されていた。

研究チームが恐竜の色を再現したところ、カムフラージュのための模様が複数あることが判明。ティラノサウルス・レックス（T・レックス、Tyrannosaurus rex）など、大型の肉食恐竜から身を守るのに役立っていたとみられる。
