【1月10日 AFP】（更新）オーストラリア連邦警察は10日、過去1週間に数十個の不審な郵便物を各国の在外公館に送り付けた疑いで、48歳の男を逮捕したと発表した。
男は9日遅く、南東部ビクトリア（Victoria）州の地方部にある自宅で逮捕された。数時間前には州都メルボルン（Melbourne）にある複数の領事館に不審な郵便物が届いていた。内容物については現在も検査が続けられている。
警察は、男がメルボルンや首都キャンベラ、シドニーにある大使館や領事館に計38個の郵便物を送り付けたとみている。
警察はこれまでにうち29個を回収し、送付対象先をすべて特定した。現時点では一般人に対する脅威はないとしている。
容疑者の男は10日中にメルボルンの裁判所に出頭し、危険物郵送の罪で訴追される見通し。裁判で有罪となれば、最大で禁錮10年を言い渡される可能性がある。
不審物が届いたのは米国や日本、中国、イタリア、インド、ニュージーランドなどの在外公館で、標的とした基準ははっきりしない。(c)AFP
